10 SYRIAN BLOW-UPS

EXHIBITION @ PIOLA LIBRI, BRUXELLES, JAN-FEB 2017

THE WRECKED CITIES USED TO BE PLACES,

THE LONG QUEUES OF REFUGEES USED TO BE WOMEN AND MEN, AND THOSE EVER-PRESENT PILES

OF UNDISTINGUISHED GARBAGE USED TO BE THINGS

10 SYRIAN BLOW-UPS is a site-specific photographic installation for Piola Libri, Bruxelles. 10 limited-edition photographic blow-ups hang from the bookshop’s ceiling to catch and invite readers and visitors’ eyes to observe details from former Syrian daily life: Syrian People, Places and Things.

10 SYRIAN BLOW-UPS is a humble attempt to release Syrian pre-war normality, based on the awareness that an arm is an arm, a shoe is a shoe, a workshop is a workshop, also in Syria, and that Syrian legs are made of the same things as the legs of the rest of the world: bones, cartilage, joints, muscles, flesh, hair.

The only difference is that the Syrian ones are currently vanishing or moving away from the places where they have learnt how to walk.
