SHAM SHAM. Persone cose e luoghi siriani realizes a visual reconstruction of a Syrian normal day before the beginning of the anti-government protests, in fall/winter 2010.
Syria is recorded here through personal memories and the enlarged evocation of encountered People, Places and Things. The visual reconstruction loathes the exhibition
of what is now reduced to wrecks, on the contrary it takes place through original photographs and blow-ups of details of what used to be before the present destruction.
The photographs composing SHAM SHAM do not follow the original chronological order of the encounters with People, Places and Things that have generated them. Instead they are organized in order to evoke an entire Syrian day, from early morning to noon, from afternoon to evening until night: they proceed according to the quantity of sunlight they hold - from the barely bright pictures
at sunrise to the most shining at noon until the darkest ones at midnight – and to the most perceptible sequence of human affairs: the daily life.
SHAM SHAM is currently available only in Italian edition (Mesogea, 2016).

SHAM SHAM. Persone cose e luoghi siriani non è un reportage sulla catastrofe che da anni si consuma in Siria, ma di quella vita quotidiana che si intuisce attraverso «quello che non c’è o potrebbe non esserci più» .
Al ‘ritorno’ da un viaggio cominciato nel 2010 per ragioni di studio e conclusosi poco prima delle proteste anti-governative del 2011, l’autore, mettendo al bando ogni intenzione descrittiva, compone luoghi, persone e cose in un singolare taccuino di viaggio per frammenti di immagini e parole che intessono lo spazio/tempo vissuto e quello del racconto.
SHAM SHAM è il tentativo di lasciar vedere luoghi, persone e cose reali osservate nel presente di una situazione già trascorsa, avanzando sulla soglia di una catastrofe che di lì a poco sarebbe stata a tutti visibile e altrettanto ignorata. Oggi potrebbero, ciascuno di essi, non essere già più, tuttavia quel presente negli occhi dell'autore e,chissà, forse anche dei lettori, è per sempre.
